This sermon study is a continuation of our full study in the book of Luke, where we focus in on chapters 3 through 7. In it, we see Jesus display His perfect obedience, call His disciples, and preach about the way of His kingdom. Each message reminds us of His pattern, His call, and His way. This is how we follow the Savior!
Preparing to Follow Jesus - Luke 3
In this message, we take Luke’s narrative of John the Baptizer’s ministry in chapter 3 and allow it answer three questions for us as we prepare to follow Jesus. Each of these questions help to bolster our understanding and faith in God, as we endeavor to learn from Jesus’ pattern, call, and way of living.
The Significance of Jesus’ Temptation - Luke 4:1-13
In this message, we look at the account of Jesus’ temptation. It’s a great story that outlines for us both theological and practical signficance. Jesus resisting temptation shows us that He is perfectly obedient to God. His temptations show us that He knows what it feels like to go through testing. And His example shows us how we too can combat the enemy and resist temptation!
How We Miss Jesus - Luke 4:14-44
In this message, we see how 2 different towns responded to Jesus. His hometown of Nazareth rejects Him, and Capernaum wants Him to stay with them! But what we find is that both towns missed who Jesus really was and what His purpose was. From these stories, we learn to evaluate ourselves. Are we missing Jesus because of preconceptions or misunderstandings?
From Fishermen to Fishers of Men - Luke 5:1-11
In this message, we look at when Jesus calls Peter, Andrew, James and John to follow Him, after performing a miracle of fish! The interaction between Jesus and Peter illustrates some principles for us to remember if we are going to be disciples of Christ!
